In the midst of the regular pace of day to day life there are always certain highlights.  These are some of the more special things that happened for us in 2005.   Events are listed in reverse order.

  • The community celebrated Christmas together for the first time at Princethorpe, joining with eight other MSCs from the Midlands of England and South Wales.  Ryan Holovlasky, one of the MSC students from the formation house in Dublin, stayed with the community over the Christmas period.

  • Carl, Ton and Mark visited Kevin Caffrey and Andy Quinn at the Fr. Hudson's Society, the Social Care Agency of the Archdiocese of Birmingham (20th December 2005).  Read more...

  • On 10th December 2005 Carl celebrated his 40th birthday with family, friends and the local MSC community.

  • During the first week of December 2005 Fr. Herman Van Holsbeek, a friend of Mark's from Belgium, visited the community prior to beginning a new ministry as prison chaplain.

  • In November the community visited the "Brushstrokes" Asylum Seekers and Refugees project in Smethwick, Birmingham.  Read more...

  • During October 2005 the community received several visitors.  Diarmuid O'Murchu MSC, a long-standing supporter of the project and Mark Van Beeumen's Novice Master, was the first to visit us.  MSCs living locally (Alan Whelan MSC, Teddy O'Brien MSC and Joe McGee MSC) have also been regular visitors from October onwards.  We were also pleased to welcome Mathieu Paradis MSC from the Belgian Province who was visiting his sister, Nellie, who lives in the MSC Parish in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

  • In October 2005 the community was present at the annual English MSC Assembly in Swanwick, Derbyshire and at the annual Irish MSC Assembly in Waterford.  While in Ireland the community stayed for some days with the MSC formation community in Tallaght, Dublin.

  • On September 28th 2005 Carl collected Ton from Birmingham airport and Mark from Coventry airport as all three came to live together for the first time in Gardener's Cottage, Princethorpe.
