MSC Presence in Europe The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart have eight Provinces in Europe:
There are MSCs working in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Wales. Each of the Provinces also has its own foreign missions. The ministries in which we are engaged in Europe are varied; parish ministry, secondary and third level education, retreat and spirituality ministry, hospital and prison chaplaincies, communications and media, sectoral ministry with immigrants, refugees, the homeless, gypsies, etc., adult education and formation, counselling and therapeutic ministries, formation and administration. Although each Province is an independent entity, with its own Provincial Superior and Provincial Council, over recent years there have been substantial efforts to increase the levels of interconnectedness and collaboration between the European Provinces. In 2002 the first MSC European Assembly was held in Issoudun, the place of our foundation in central France. At that Assembly the idea of this European Community Project was first raised. A second European Assembly was held in 2004, where the decision was taken to launch the project in England in 2005. The third European Assembly was held from 21st to 26th August 2006, again in Issoudun. At this Assembly the European Community was formally sent on mission to Aston by the Superior General and the Chair of the European Provincials' Conference. The last meeting of the Conference of European Provincials was during the third European Assembly in Issoudun in August 2006. The next meeting will be in Waterford, Ireland in February 2007. • |
